Kerryanne and Rory became husband and wife in the beautiful Scottish borders on the most perfect autumn day. They were married in a lovely and personal ceremony and celebrated their special day with their closest family and friends on Saturday 5th November. I was delighted to having been invited to photograph their ceremony and wedding portraits, and were most impressed how everyone braved the autumn chill as we took the photographs outdoors in the beautiful afternoon light. Kerryanne & Rory are such a lovely couple and we had great fun taking their portraits. On a lovely sunny morning a couple of days ago I met Jo, a freelance classical music writer (and also my neighbour and friend), to take a series of portraits for her website and marketing materials. I just love the light and colours at this time of year, and they provided the perfect setting for our wee session. We had such a lovely and fun morning and Jo was a natural in front of the camera! After our session we treated ourselves to some lovely soup in a local cafe, the perfect Monday and start to a new week!

I had a lovely time photographing Jenny, Howard and Max in Crammond at the weekend. I've never taken photographs in Crammond before, it's such a great setting for family photographs and we even had a little bit of sunshine! Max decided early on that smiling wouldn't be on the agenda, but with a few tricks up Jenny and Howard's sleeves, we got a couple of great smiles and I look forward to seeing more when I meet them for another session in a few weeks time. I just loved Annie and Martin’s wedding in Edinburgh last month. It was such a lovely and personal ceremony and I was very flattered to be one of their witnesses as well as their photographer. I photographed Annie a few years ago, and I was very excited when she contacted me about photography for their secret (!) wedding day and couldn’t wait for the day to arrive. Annie loves architecture and with permission we took the majority of their wedding portraits inside the Scottish Museum on Chambers street, it was fabulous and never before have I heard so many compliments and congratulations to a couple by passers by. When I left them they were very excited to call their family and friends with the happy news, and with Annie and Martin’s kind permission I’m delighted to show you a selection of images from their wedding day in September.

Colleen and Jeff traveled up from Manchester to celebrate their wedding day just the two of them in the beautiful Scottish country side, and became Mr & Mrs Tate in a really lovely and personal wedding ceremony on the 15th August. A few days after their wedding, Colleen and Jeff got all dressed up again for a big party celebrating their marriage with all their family and friends back home in Manchester. I just loved Joann's dress, she looked so amazing and I marveled at the details and the fabulous decorations she had prepared for the day. On the 2nd August I went to Stranraer to meet up with Nadia and her family for a portrait session in celebration of her mum's 60th birthday. Living in Guernsey, France and the USA everyone had travelled to Stranraer (her mum's home town) for the birthday and family re-union. I met them in the Kennedy Castle Gardens in the drizzling rain to take a mixture of family and individual portraits, and with Nadia's kind permission I am delighted to show you a selection of images taken.

Thunderous Wedding

Gillian and José dreamed of a woodland wedding for their big day, and on the 9th July they married amongst many umbrellas and all their family and friends in a lovely ceremony in the grounds of Barony Castle. The thunder, the lightning, the occasional downpour, it all made their day all the more romantic, atmospheric and simply wonderful. Hello! I've been off the radar for a while again.... Sorry! The reason being designing wedding albums (love it), a fabulous wedding on Skye, continued work on my new online portfolio (going live this summer so watch this space), a mini holiday, preparing material for a wedding fayre and more so all in all fabulous things that make life busy and good.

I have a week's holiday coming up after which the wedding season is properly kicking off and I'm sooo looking forward to it, starting off with a wedding on a farm down the borders. I can't wait! But first, I'm looking forward to photographing a family reunion in Crieff this coming weekend and the 'location brief' - photographing a secret location somewhere not too far away. Intriguing and let's hope the wind settles....

I met Rachel for a portrait session at the Scottish Poetry Library (many thanks for your help!) in Edinburgh last week to capture a series of informal and lighthearted portraits for her business Hazell Designs Books. The session was great fun (despite the rain) and Rachel had also brought along one of her books to show me an example of her work. She designs the loveliest books! Winter Portraits

Knowing me too well, my good friend Anna didn't fall for any of my tricks as we plowed our way through the snow for a wintry portrait session in Sweden recently. We had great fun taking her portraits and with snow up to our knees, I was rather happy that I didn't have a heavy camera bag on my back, but just my camera and the one lens (50 mm) which I had brought across. With Anna's kind permission I'm pleased to show you a few shots from our session in the snow.

I couldn't not bring my camera on my recent trip to a beautiful and still very wintry Sweden! I normally hike across with my camera bag full of gear, but this time I only brought my camera and my 50 mm lens and it was really quite refreshing not having the choices of different lenses and whether to use the flash etc etc! Another bonus - it was so much lighter to carry!

The weather was pretty gray most of the time, but the sun peaked through enough for a stroll around my favourite parts of my home town. The lake and the canal are very symbolic, and depending on the season are often full of either boats or ice skaters. I just love the area and this is home to me.

However, until then....... I bought a new lens the other day and I l.o.v.e it. I can't wait to use it at my next wedding!

After a lovely break over the holidays I met up with Rose & Andrew last week to give them their wedding album. We had a great catch up and it was so nice to see them both again and hear about their adventures since their wedding last summer.

Half way through my cup of tea, Rose surprised me with a lovely gift! A beautiful handmade book and a card. They are just so beautiful so I asked Rose for her permission to show case her wonderful skills on my blog, and here they are! Thank you so much Rose and Andrew!

I love this winter weather. I love walking through the knee high snow and breathing in the cold fresh air. It's magical to me and really reminds me of my childhood. I can't get enough - it's just so beautiful! I love it and have uploaded a few photographs I took during my lunch time walk today.

I have just finished editing the photographs from my photo session with Melanie, Nick, Ruby, Jeannie and Mae at Gullane Bents a few weeks ago. Such good fun - the session was all but calm with high winds, running around, jumping and not standing still even for one short moment! A thoroughly enjoyable session with the loveliest family.

Ah, it is just so beautiful in this winter wonderland! I just love the snow, though I have to confess that hours of snow shoveling and clearing the road from my house is hard work... Luckily, I have the best neighbours and we all helped out this morning. One of my neighbours even made everyone cups of tea when we were done, and it was amazing standing out there, in the cold, with the snow falling and drinking a warm cup of tea before heading back in to the office. Here's the view form my office, most of the window is covered in snow so the visibility is somewhat limited. However, it still shows how magical a winter's day like today can be. Happy winter to you all, enjoy the snow!

Edinburgh wedding guide

I was approached by an Edinburgh wedding guide earlier this year to place an advert in their brochure. Last week I received a copy, and rather exciting to see it in print I must say! My new website (coming soon) will no longer feature the fashion / portfolio galleries. However, I will still do model portfolio shoots. I’ve been lucky to have worked with some fantastic make up artists, stylists and models in the past and these photo sessions are creative, well arranged and simply good fun. I love doing these shoots so don’t hesitate to get in touch with any requests! All portfolio shoots are done on location and tailored and quoted to your individual requirements.

From now on, fashion related photographs will be displayed on my blog in the models / fashion photography category. More coming soon... this is just a start!

I am just back from a fantastic few days up in Skye. Hillwalking, swimming in the fairy pools (husband and friends also swam in the Atlantic), the big surprise of celebrating our friends engagement (!) and not forgetting the photographing of the beautiful scenery. This time, I decided to turn my camera to the ground and took a small photographic series of beautiful pebbles.

Back from my holiday! And back to being busy. I'm closing in on finalising my new website, which I may make pink! I'm not entirely sure how I ended up selecting pink... The recommended colours for displaying photographs is usually white, black or grey to allow a neutral background for the photographs to stand out against. However, I like a bit of colour and my thinking is that we have to renew ourselves now and then. My goal is to have the site up and running by the end of September, hopefully it will still be pink by then!

Summer times are busy times and I like it, like it, like it!

Though it is keeping me from blogging at the moment and I have some catching up to do! Soon soon soon there will be many new pics available and I'm so excited to share pics from some of my latest sessions and weddings.

Plus, new website galleries are in the making and a slight tweak to the site's colour scheme! Very excited about this and as you can see (if you visit my blog regularly), I am experimenting with the blog at the moment to match the site in making, hence it's changing appearance now and then. I hope it's not too confusing! I'd love to hear your feedback if you have any...

Indeed! Emma and Kester braved the cold winds for a portrait session at Gullane Bents last weekend. The day was anything but warm but that didn’t stop us from hiking and climbing around the beach setting for a rather adventurous session. Despite the freezing conditions, Emma and Kester remained in high spirits and I must say, they were brilliant fun to photograph!

It's been a little while since my last entry I see... back in December! So, what's happened? Spring has finally arrived and the cold winter is over. I've had a series of lovely winter / early spring sessions on crisp beautiful days out and about in Edinburgh and also a few home visits for portrait sessions. A few photos will be uploaded shortly, but not all as some felt quite private about their photos, so you'll have to trust me that they were shot on sunny days, full of colour and beautiful smiles!
I've also moved, but not too far. I'm still in Edinburgh and I've enjoyed setting up my new office / work shop, getting ready for the spring and summer of 2010! I'm really looking forward to the next coming months, so keep checking in, I shall do better at keeping my blog up to date!
